Almaty Metro

Official metro map in Almaty

This 38km long metro just started in December 2011, after 22 years of construction. It’s really brand new; you can still see the label of the tiles sometimes!

The ticket is a yellow monopoly token that can be used only in the day you bought it. To buy the token, please go to the counter.

Insert coin to play!

For only 80tг, it’s probably the cheapest and convenient way of transport. The Almatians seem not have discovered that they have a metro yet and it’s empty. You find space at any time of the day!

Almatians in metro.

Very convenient if you are traveling from PaйыmБek to Aпaгay. The metro is still in construction and there is still many more stops and lines coming in the very next years.

Scary, right?

Some cool decoration featuring the national fruit, the apple.

Every metro still is richly decorated and I saw many people stopping in every stop only to take photos.
Unfortunately this shiny metro is not very foreigner friendly and all the stops and information are clearly marked…in Cyrillic.
